Former national team sprint kayaker • Founded Gentoo Sports • Stuart Delivery city launcher → programme manager • Physicist with a materials science PhD.

Background

I studied Physics then did a PhD in Materials Science, but didn’t want to stay in academia. During that time I was a flatwater kayaker on the national team for several years. I also started Gentoo Sports, an e-commerce business selling kayaking (and other sports) clothes and kit.

After uni, I joined Stuart Delivery as an early employee—working as a city launcher and operations lead, opening new markets and helping scale the company through ~100x growth.

In 2023 I moved to Italy (for the sun and family) and attended the Apple Developer Academy to learn iOS development. I’ve made a few apps—you can find them on the App Store. Then spent time exploring what I wanted to do next and going down the EA rabbit hole.

After a six months as operations contractor for High Impact Professionals I’m now doing the AIM Charity Entrepreneurship Incubation Program.

Interests

I’m particularly interested in effective altruism, animal welfare, personal productivity, personal finance, business or app ideas.

I’m no longer competing, but still love health and fitness. These days: swimming, gym, and getting back into kayaking after a back injury. I’ve also done a weightlifting competition, ran a solo marathon (thanks COVID), and tried BJJ for about a year.
